What the museums have in store

Military museums can be visited for free. The State Defense Museum of Moscow, the Zelenograd Museum, the Panorama Museum “Battle of Borodino”, the Museum of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia, the museum complex “History of the T-34 Tank” and others will not charge an entrance fee on May 8 and 9.

GORKY PARK

“ZiS-3 cannons from the Great Patriotic War will be placed on Poklonnaya Hill. They will provide noise accompaniment to the fireworks, firing 30 salvos. The military will begin the festive artillery salute at exactly 22.00, it will last 10 minutes,” reports the Western Military District (WMD).

“The unique color scheme of the festive artillery salute to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was modeled by servicemen of a separate guards salute division of the Western Military District. On May 9, the night sky of Moscow will be decorated with 10 thousand fireworks,” the message says.

It is noted that the military is now loading fireworks. More than 75 types of fireworks products will be used during the holiday, which will provide over 550 colors and shades, special brightness, sparkle, colorfulness and the height of the firework domes, which reaches 350 meters. To launch them, installations of four calibers will be used - 105 mm, 125 mm, 195 mm and 310 mm.

Previously, the military had already worked out the coherence and synchronization of actions during the fireworks display, and also checked the stability of signals from radio equipment that would ensure simultaneous salvos throughout the capital.

The program “Voices of the Great Victory” will be performed by young talents Yuri Novodvorsky, Eduard Dzyuba, Ilya Kazakov, Denis Tepaev, Artyom Razorenov, Dmitry Komarov-Ternovy, Alexander Klevich.

14.00 – Historical and patriotic concert “Victoria”

The program includes songs of the pre-war period, songs about the Great Patriotic War, dance compositions.

16.00 – Concert of bell music “A String of Rings” as part of the Ringing Week of the Moscow Easter Festival under the direction of Valery Gergiev.

Victory Day in the Lilac Garden

On May 9, a festive program in honor of Victory Day will be held in the Lilac Garden - guests will enjoy creative master classes, performances by an orchestra and cover bands, as well as fireworks!

In the creative zone, everyone will be able to learn the origami technique, decorate candlesticks using the decoupage technique, and make 3D cards and holiday magnets. The program also includes master classes on creating holiday pendants, painting handbags, and making flower arrangements.

The musical part of the festival will open with a performance by the cover orchestra “Music Storm Orchestra” at 14:40, followed by performances by a street theater and a dance group. Cover bands “Neon Tapehead”, “VWBand” and “There Will Be No Keene” will also perform in the park.

Fireworks will go off at 22:00!

Victory Day on Borodino Field

On May 9, 2018, on the Borodino field, with the support of the Russian Military Historical Society, a solemn celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory will be held.

Every year on May 9, the Hermitage Garden becomes a festive venue for the Victory Ball. Muscovites who left the garden for the front return here again on May 9 to remember the days of the war for the Fatherland. Among the veterans, whose names are forever associated with the history of the garden, are members of the club of legendary pilots "Aviatress", veterans of the 125th Guards Borisov Order of Suvorov and Kutuzov Bomber Aviation Regiment named after the Hero of the Soviet Union Marina Raskova (women's dive bomber regiment) and veterans of the 40th Guards Yenakievo - Danube Red Banner Order of Suvorov Rifle Division.

On the day of the Great Victory, guests of the Hermitage Garden will be treated to performances by the winners of the Moscow youth patriotic competition “Spring of 45”, the brass band of the Moscow garrison, the orchestra led by Alexei Strenadko and the male chamber choir led by Valery Rybin. And also the festive program “Forties, Fatal”, prepared by the Hermitage Theater.

Both adults and young guests of the Hermitage Garden will certainly be interested in seeing an exhibition of Soviet retro cars, participating in a variety of master classes and taking part in chess club games in the shady part of the garden. Also on Victory Day, a field kitchen will be open for everyone in the Hermitage garden.

At 18.00 the square in front of the historical stage of the Hermitage garden will turn into a dance floor of the 40s and the costumed Victory Ball will begin “At six o’clock in the evening...”. The Ball program will include dances by guests and veterans, demonstration performances by dance groups, and vocal performances of songs from the war years. Professional dance masters will help beginners master retro dances: Krakowiak, Rio Rita, tango, waltz and many others. And experienced dancers will demonstrate their skills.

At exactly seven o'clock in the evening, the Hermitage Garden will honor the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.

The event will be completed by a solemn city fireworks display in honor of the Great Victory Day and in gratitude to the soldiers of the Great War.
